What I like to do
I love my groomy time, also tummy rub time and car rides! Playing with other dogs in my kingdom and digging is fun too. Mostly I just like to spend time with my Amy. Go for a walk or curl-up on the couch, It's just nice to be together.
Where we'd go if I got to choose the destination of our next vacation
Australia! I want to see the other Koala bears and those -um- Earth Koalas!
HS: You mean Wombats?
I like Earth Koala better. Or Europe would be fun too! Daddy has been to Germany and says it's really beautiful with lots of good things to eat and *blushes* thats where Schnauzers come from...
HS: You just like Schnauzers!
How I came to be in the care of my owner
I'm Tulip, a little rescue dog who along with finding a home, has become a therapy dog . It is a bit of a long story.
My old master loved me very much and I was his baby for a long time. It is a long story but we fell on hard times and my master lost his home. We spent months liveing out of his car wile he worked to find a place and make ends meet. When he finely found a new place though, they did not allow dogs. Not even Tulip!
I was not doing so well by then and my master knew he could not care for me like I needed. As much as it hurt him to leave me, he surrendered me to a dog rescue in hopes that I could have a home and family again.
I wasnt very happy at first. I had spend time in the doggy hospital with a blood infection from a tick bite, kennel cough and found out I had glaucoma and they shaved all my hair off! Well it did feel good to get my hair cut that one time, I looked like a giant dust bunny, but most of all I was just lonely and scared.
When I was finely healthy enough to leave the hospital, I was sent to stay with a foster family. At first I was afraid but they were so loveing and kind and it had been so long since I just got to be someone's baby. I got attached fast and I wanted to stay with them forever but I was still always scared of being left on my own or taken away again.
When my mom talked about the good news that somebody wanted to adopt me...well...I didnt quite know how to feel. My mom thought this girl would be a perfect compaion for me and she did sound very nice but I didnt want to leave my home and family all over again!
But Mom would say "This will be your forever home. Tulip never have to be afraid of being left alone or taken away any more."
I belived her and trust her about this girl and "forever home"...but I was still a little scared.
After a wile I got to meet the girl and her family, when she came to the rescue to addopt me. I could see why Mom liked her. She knew alot about dogs with special needs, good doggy foods, careing for older dogs (what brought that up?) and agreed that little dogs like me deserve to be totally spoiled. I started to like her too at that.
We talked for a long time (well they did most of the talking and I got to smell all the new feet and try out sitting in the different laps) and went for a walk all together before saying goodbye. I was sad to leave my mom but not scared anymore.
This girl, Amy, I could tell then she was the person for me. The one who would become my best friend.
Though she is a human and I'm a doggy, we are alot alike. Mabey becuse we are both stylish young women? Some think becuse we are both disabled we can just understand each other's feelings becuse we know them. Mabey she just follow the rule 'Tulip get what Tulip want!" hee hee.
I dont always get my way, Amy won't give me people food since the vet said it's bad for little dogs and if she has to take her meds I have to take mine too, but she is only looking out for me. I pout sometimes when I dont get my way but It's good to know that Amy can be all strong and protective for me. She says I help her to become strong.
Before I came to live with Amy's family you see, she was very sick. Sometimes she was too weak to even get out of bed from haveing so many seizures. A few months before she had to have surgury and her dog, he was a very special dog named Winston who was also a seizure dog, passed away suddenly. Amy had been doing well for the first time since she had been diagnosed but when Winnie died she had a terrible relapse.
"Almost as much as being sick, the worst feeling is being so weak and helpless. I depend on everyone and cant do anything when they need me." That is how she felt. It was terriblely scary and lonely for her too during that time.
Amy had made a promise a long time ago to Winnie, he was already a little old man when she adopted him, that someday when he 'returned to the heavens' that she would adopt another rescue dog in his honor. She said he was the kind of dog who was so overprotective and bossy! Winnie would come back to huant her unless she found somebody to make her smile again and shared his great kingdom with another deserving dog.
I think Amy was jokeing when she said Winnie would huant her if she didnt keep her promise but the way people talk about him he is kinda like some mythical beast...he was like this half a lion, half a dog with four eyes that could see into people's hearts and predict when people with Amy's disease would get sick. Mabey he COULD haunt people if he wanted too!
But Amy thinks he is looking after the two of us from heaven, like what people call a guardian angel. The way things have worked out for me...how lucky I am to have found a family and home again and even have my own pack of neighbor dogs to play with, mabey it is true.
People have said a few times I must be the happiest dog in the wold becuse I smile so much and though I have seen some tragady in my life and getting through the separation anxiety took some time, I can honestly say that I am a happy dog!
How cute!
That's so sweet!
Congrats on Pet of the Week!
Tulip absolutely looks like a koala bear! Maybe she infiltrates the koala cages and does secret undercover zoo work at night?
I think that would be her dream job! When Tulip sees videos of koalas and wombats on TV or the computer she gets so excited and wants to play with them! I wonder if she thinks they are also little grey dogs or if she is a koala.
